BEDFORD CO., Va. (WDBJ7) Medical professionals believe the man found unresponsive on Route 122 in Bedford County may have been struck by lightning, according to Virginia State Police.

State Police have identified the man as Robert Miller Jr. from Moneta. Miller, 23, was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital Thursday for treatment. He is still there.

Virginia State Police do not believe this was a hit-and-run and are not looking for a vehicle.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and Bureau of Criminal Investigation have determined that Miller wasn’t struck by a vehicle and wasn’t a victim of a criminal act.

Virginia State Police are investigating an unusual hit-and-run incident that occurred Thursday afternoon on Route 122 in Bedford County.

A State Trooper was driving on Route 122 when he saw an unresponsive man face down on the side of the road.

The man was found near Bowyers Loop: five miles south of U.S. 460 in Bedford County.

He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

State Police Accident Reconstruction and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene to assist, according to Sergeant Richard Garletts.

The incident initially closed all lanes on Route 122 in Bedford County Thursday, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
