The severe weather has brought damage to make of our hometown.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office says they are beginning the recovery process this morning. As they begin working on the damage they are asking the community to avoid certain areas.

Officials say to be aware of pop up sites that are taking donations to go towards the damage.

Deputies want people to know that they don't need any further donations at the command post or emergency shelter.

They are urging people to not travel towards the Elon area.

They say all unnecessary traffic in the area further complicates response efforts. Law enforcement will be screening traffic and turning away nonresidents.
