Amherst County man robbed at gunpoint; deputies search for suspects

AMHERST CO., Va. (WDBJ7) -- The Amherst County Sheriff's Office is searching for two people who they say robbed a man at gunpoint Friday.

According to the Amherst County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the area of the dam on River Road in Madison Heights at around 1 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of an armed robbery.

A man in that area told deputies that he had been robbed by two masked men. That man said the two men stole his wallet, cell phone and his vehicle. The man also told deputies that one of the men was armed with a handgun. Both men ran away from the scene following the incident, deputies said.

The man who was robbed tells deputies that he believes one of the suspects had a foreign accent.

Deputies say they found the stolen vehicle unoccupied in Madison Heights several hours later.
