According to a spokesperson from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, the inaugural Amtrak trip into Roanoke is scheduled for October 30.
Full revenue service is set for October 31.
When passenger service returns, Amtrak will extend its northeast regional service and operate one round trip every day of the week.
Tickets are not for sale yet, but trains are coming twice a day, five days a week.
The trips will help engineers and conductors learn the tracks and territory between Lynchburg and Roanoke.
According to an earlier press release, the effort to expand rail options in Virginia has been made possible by the Commonwealth’s more than $100 million strategic investment in Norfolk Southern's rail infrastructure.
