Angel Tree season off to slower start than usual

SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7) It’s the season for Angel Tree gifts, and The Salvation Army is asking you to consider adopting one. They still have 500 angels that haven't been picked up yet.

We got a look inside their distribution center on Apperson Drive earlier today. They say it's emptier than normal. Fewer angels have been returned, too. The deadline is December 16, so you still have time, but they say bringing in gifts earlier helps them prepare.

Monica Seiler, The Salvation Army Captain, said, “It's slow, so in the next couple of days if gifts don't start returning, we will start to panic a little bit.”

They're also looking for newborn baby and older kids items. Angels can be returned to the distribution center at 1796 Apperson Drive, Salem, or Valley View and Tanglewood Malls.
