ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Prayers were offered up for man's best friend on Wednesday, as part of St. Francis of Assisi Day.
October 4th marks a celebration of St. Francis and his love of all creatures.
Father Kevin Segerblom presided over the special blessing on the grassy area between St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church and Roanoke Catholic School.
Pet owners said the event helps keep faith strong in their families.
"We really enjoy our faith and our animals are part of our family so it's just another way to keep our faith within our family," dog owner Carla Brindle said.
In total, about 20 dogs were blessed, along with a bag of tigerfish.
