Austin Nichols dismissed from UVA men's basketball team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Austin Nichols has been dismissed from the University of Virginia men’s basketball team, coach Tony Bennett announced Friday.

The redshirt junior forward was previously suspended for the Cavaliers’ two preseason scrimmages and the season-opener on Nov. 11.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” Bennett said in a statement released by UVA. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”

Nichols played one game at UVA, scoring 11 points and grabbing three rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 15. He sat out last season after transferring from Memphis.
