Bedford Animal Shelter worker sentenced for injuring cat

BEDFORD COUNTY (WDBJ7) -- A man who worked at the Bedford County Animal Shelter will spend 15 days in jail for injuring a cat so badly that it had to be euthanized.

In May he entered a "no contest" plea to a felony count of animal cruelty.

Prosecutors say Skinnell slammed a cat to the ground.

The animal was later put to sleep.

A judge reduced Skinnell's charge to a misdemeanor, after a doctor testified Skinnell has "psychological traits" that impair his behavior.
