Bedford County Animal Shelter employee fired, charged with killing cat

BEDFORD CO., Va. (WDBJ7) A Bedford County Animal Shelter employee has been fired after accusations that he killed a cat.

Animal Control deputies responded to the complaint on August 10. They were told that Bryan Skinnell hurt a cat while performing cleaning maintenance. Skinnell grew frustrated when the cat kept escaping its cage, according to the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.

The cat had to be euthanized due to its injuries. The cause of death was consistent with blunt force trauma.

Skinnell is charged with felony animal cruelty.

On September 26, Skinnell was arrested and transported to the Bedford Adult Detention Facility. He was released on a Personal Recognizance bond.
