Bedford County Schools allowing students to participate in National School Walkout

BEDFORD Co., Va. (WDBJ7) According to a statement released Thursday, Bedford County Public Schools says school administration is allowing the county's secondary schools to participate in the National School Walkout that is taking place on March 14.

Ryan Edwards, the Public Relations and Community Outreach Coordinator for Bedford County Public Schools, says administration is working closely with law enforcement to allow students to participate in designated and monitored locations.

Bedford County Public Schools says "students who wish to peacefully and respectfully participate will not be disciplined."

Edwards says the safety of the students and staff is the top priority.

Bedford County Public Schools says, "Our sympathy for the victims of this senseless tragedy in Florida will extend far beyond next Wednesday."
