MONETA, Va. (WDBJ7)-- The Powers family got a phone call just before 6:30 Sunday night that the roof on one of their barns was missing. The Fire Department received a phone call not long after that because a barn roof was in the middle of the road.
The barn is on Emmaus Church Road. No animals were injured and they are all accounted for, but the structure is destroyed. The surrounding homes were left unscathed. Fallen trees are the only other sign that a storm hit the area.
"When you start looking around we can see 12 homes, 12 nice homes," said Jeff Powers, owner of the family farm. "And it didn't touch a single home. So if I had to give up my barn to save someone else's house, I'd sure do that. I didn't want any of these houses damaged or nobody hurt."
The Powers family said they will rebuild.
