BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7)-- In Bedford County, a job readiness course is using a different approach to help the community. Simple Solution is taking the playing field out of an institutional setting to make people more comfortable.
Located in Downtown Bedford across from Department of Social Services, Simple Solution operates independently. However, all of the services provided at Simple Solution are completely funded by DSS.
People on parole or receiving SNAP benefits are just some who are referred to participate in the program, but it’s open to anyone who needs the help.
“Come together and job search together and support one another and see who the employers are in our community,” said Angie Robertson, owner of Simple Solution. “It broadens their vision of what they can do.”
The course aims to remove barriers keeping people from gaining employment. One of the main goals is to connect people to all of the resources available in the county.
While they go over mock interviews, resume building and the job search, Simple Solution digs a little deeper. If someone is struggling with medical bills, they connect them with someone to get it sorted out. If a driver’s license was revoked and transportation is an issue, they help people solve that problem. It’s about providing support for individuals in the community.
The course runs from month to month, but students are welcomed to stay for as long as they need. The class is Monday-Friday, 9am-1pm. Transportation is provided.
