Bedford County students learn the business of being an artisan

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Making a living through the arts. That's a topic students from all three Bedford County middle schools learned about at the Sedalia Center Wednesday.

Sonya Forte of Studio 43 Pottery demonstrates her technique for hand-crafting artwork.

They were taking part in an "Artisan Fair." A blacksmith was on hand to show how he makes tools and other items, a potter demonstrated her technique for hand crafting dishes, and a farmer explained how food makes it to our tables.

All of the presenters are members of the Bedford Artisan Trail.

"I believe that children need an outlet to be creative," said Heidi Hunter, executive director of the Sedalia Center. "We want them to do something other than sit inside and watch TV."

Wednesday's field trip was one of several activities happening in Bedford County schools to recognize Youth Art Month.
