BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) The Bedford County Sheriff's Office is getting new funding to fight gang activity.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Monday night to give Sheriff Mike Brown $44,000 to hire a new sheriff's deputy.

The board also voted to give Brown more than $25,000 to purchase new gang fighting equipment.

Raymond Wood, a teenager from Lynchburg, was found dead in the Goode area of Bedford County March 27. Deputies say three people arrested and charged in connection with Wood's death have ties to MS-13, a gang known for carrying out violent murders.

Brown said he hopes to have his new deputy hired in the next 90 days.
