BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) This week marks the 100th anniversary of America's involvement in World War I and the Bedford Museum and Genealogical Library is honoring the occasion with a special exhibit.
A display called "America Remembers" will open this weekend. It will feature artifacts like uniforms worn by soldiers from various countries, along with weapons and shrapnel collected from the battlefield. Names of soldiers from our region who served in the war are also listed.
"So many Americans, particularly from this part of the state and this part of the country, went to war, gave their lives, and/or became severely wounded," said Lee Anthony, a WWI historian and son of a World War I soldier who contributed artifacts to the display.
The exhibit opens Saturday and will remain at the museum through August.
