Bedford supervisors approve raises, new pay scale for county employees

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Employees who work for the county of Bedford have something to be extra thankful about this Thanksgiving: They're getting a raise.

The Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved a new pay scale for all county employees Monday night. Full and part-time workers will automatically receive a 2 percent raise.

New salary ranges were also approved by supervisors. Workers who fall below the minimum for their position will automatically get a bump in pay, along with the 2 percent raise.

Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown says the new pay scale will help him retain deputies and other employees.

"It's long overdue. Long overdue for all of the employees," said Brown, who has been lobbying for the new pay scale for several years.

The pay plan was developed over a 15-month period, which included research into what comparable localities are paying their public service employees.

The new pay scale and raises take effect December 1.
