Bedford water line project enters final phase

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) A project to build new water lines in Bedford County is entering its final phase.

Drivers along Route 460 between Bedford and Lynchburg have probably seen a lot of heavy equipment along the highway.

Crews are burying pipes for the Bedford Regional Water Authority. When it's finished the new line will carry water from Smith Mountain Lake to Bedford and Forest.

The project will give Bedford County a secondary water source to supplement its current reservoir near the Peaks of Otter.

"The reservoir is not always reliable during drought season and drought times. It can be very low or dry up, which has happened in the past," said Megan Aubrey, communications coordinator for the Bedford Regional Water Authority.

The entire project should be finished by May.
