LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ7) Seven bicyclists on a mission came to Lexington Wednesday.

The students from Western Kentucky University are approaching the end of a coast-to-coast ride to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research.

“This is actually our fifth ride, and it’s the first back-to-back year that we’ve done it," says Logan Carroll, one of the Ride4Alz bicyclists. "So we’ve raised over $200,000 in the past seven years, I guess, so we hope to raise a little bit more this year.”

They started in San Francisco on May 20, and plan to arrive in Virginia Beach on Sunday.

And just to be clear: it’s been a different team each year. Logan says it’s kind of tough to get someone to ride cross-country twice.
