Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department prepares for Florence

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) The town of Blacksburg is preparing for the storm.

The Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department said they've scheduled crews to be available for as long as the storm is in our area.

This week the team has been double checking gear and fueling all their vehicles. The fire chief says it's been a community effort to prepare for Florence.

"All the fire departments in Montgomery County and throughout this area, it's the same," fire chief Bobby Carner said. "We're all trying to protect our citizens. And I think all the departments are ready for this."

He says people should double check that lawn furniture and outdoor recreation items are tied down or moved indoors. He says from storm pasts, he expects wind damage and high water to be the biggest concern.
