Blacksburg team biking across country to raise money, awareness for MS

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Avid and amateur cyclists are riding across the country to raise awareness and money for multiple sclerosis.

The Bike the US for MS team started their nearly 3,800 mile trip last week from Virginia to California.

They're taking breaks during their journey to do service projects for people who have MS.

This afternoon they did yard work for a homeowner in Blacksburg.

Damian Salas is from Blacksburg and plans to ride his bike for the entire trip that takes 62 days.

"A friend of mine who works for the group now did this two years ago and I followed him then, and I followed the TransAm group last year thought it would be a neat way to see the country and help a great cause," Salas said.

Each cyclist is required to raise one dollar per mile they travel.

That money supports research and treatment for MS.
