CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va (WDBJ7) UPDATE:

Campbell County Public Schools

A new drop-off and pick-up procedure has been set up near Brookville Middle School after a sinkhole was found on school property, according to Campbell County Schools.

The sinkhole was discovered in the front parking lot of Brookville Middle around 4 p.m. Since the sinkhole was near the bus lane and the storm water drain pipe runs underneath the bus lane, it was determined to be unsafe to use.

The school was closed Wednesday so plans could be developed for student drop-off and pickup.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has closed Bee Drive to thru traffic. Car riders at Brookville must arrive between 7 and 7:20 a.m. via Enterprise Drive. Cars will not be permitted on Bee Drive between 7:20 and 7:45 a.m.

In the afternoon, car riders for Brookville won’t be let out of school until 3:15 p.m. No cars will be allowed to enter Bee Drive before 3:15 p.m. This includes riders at Tomahawk Elementary School. After the second load of buses leave, cars will be allowed to enter Bee Drive for Brookville and Tomahawk.

A map of the area is on the Campbell County Schools website.

This is the fourth sinkhole in the Brookville complex in the past year. Plans were already in place to make repairs this summer when school ended, and bids for this projects are due on Thursday.
