Burton cousins to race against each other for first time this weekend in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) The next generation of a racing dynasty is preparing to face off for the first time this weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

But they're no strangers to the track. Their dads both raced at Martinsville when they were younger.

Harrison and Jeb Burton both say they're ready to battle it out on the track this weekend.

The drivers were able to get some practice laps in Friday, but the real action will go down on Saturday.

"Should be a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm sure there's going to be a little cousin rivalry going on and it should be a fun to watch and it would be really fun to be a part of," says Harrison Burton.

Harrison and Jeb are the sons of well-known racers, Ward and Jeff Burton.

The cousins say they've always been pretty competitive, even though there is an eight-year age difference.

"Me and Jeb have always been pretty competitive, but it's not been on the racetrack. It's playing Madden on the Xbox and things like that," says Harrison."

"Always talking about the day that this would happen," adds Jeb.

"Yeah, right, we're always like 'Well, wait until I beat you on the track track' you know so. Now we get to put that to the test," says Harrison.

So, who do they think is going to win at the Speedway? They say a Burton.

"At the end of the day we're both here for ourselves, right? It's kind of a selfish sport, so you gotta be here for yourself, but I think if I had to choose one person to beat me, it'd probably be Jeb," says Harrison.

"Hopefully we can do a good job this weekend and hopefully we can have a Burton 1,2. That'd be pretty special," says Jeb.
