LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) -- A free course in disaster preparedness, emergency first aid, and related topics begins in Lexington on Monday.

“What we’re trying to do is to educate citizens to be prepared to take care of themselves, their neighbors and their community, really in that order, through this training,” says Robert Foresman, emergency management coordinator for Rockbridge.

The Community Emergency Response Team (or “CERT”) training is free, and all materials are provided. A range of topics, like fire safety, terrorism awareness and preparedness, disaster psychology, and search and rescue will be covered.

It begins at 6 p.m. in the Rockbridge County Administration Building on the second floor.
