UPDATE: Car strikes telephone pole causes power outages in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE:

Roanoke Police responded to reports of a vehicle accident in the 3000 block of Franklin Road Southwest.

When officers arrived on scene they found a Honda Accord that had been traveling south on Franklin Road veered over into the northbound lanes, striking an AEP telephone pole.

According to police, the pole was knocked over and damaged several cars in a car lot.

Police say the vehicle continued driving south after and then stopped a short distance away from the scene.

Roanoke police says officers searched the area and could not locate the driver of the car.

The incident remains under investigation. Officers are working to determine who the driver of the car was at the time of the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Roanoke Police.

Roanoke City officials are investigating a car crash incident that happened early Wednesday morning at Beechwood and Franklin Road.

Crews were dispatched to the area for reports of power outages.

Roanoke City officials have notified the power company as well as the water authority.

According to Appalachian Power, about 100 customers are without power due to the crash.

Crews will be working to restore those power outages as soon as they can.
