Cavaliers ready to set a new standard

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WCAV) Virginia opens with William and Mary Saturday afternoon at Scott Stadium as Bronco Mendenhall begins his second season in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers say they hope his first is but a distant memory.

"We don't really look back at last year too much but we do know that last year we weren't prepared to come out and play against Richmond amd get that win," said Virginia Safety, Juan Thornhill. "We made a lot of mistakes. We were very young."

"I don't remember much about last year," said Mendenhall. "I remember the first few moments of the opening game, and it's like, 'Oh, this is who we are. This is where we are and this is how we are.' So I just feel more clear about where we are starting from."

"My main focus is just telling guys to look around and look at how much different we are," said Quarterback, Kurt Benkert. "Look at how completely different a team we are from top to bottom and to understand last year happened but it's not us. It's not us anymore."
