BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) A Bedford County hospice liaison is taking time to talk to people about a tough topic: end of life care.
Terri Johnson has been traveling around Bedford to drive this important conversation. It's part of a series called "Facing the Elephant in the room".
Advanced directives, "DNRs" and debunking myths about hospice were all on the agenda.
"That if I'm coming into hospice today that I'm going pass away in the next day or two or the next week, when realistically hospice care would like to be there for 6 months or even longer if someone has a life limiting illness," said Johnson, explaining one myth about hospice.
Johnson has given this talk at five of the six Bedford County libraries so far. Her last session is Tuesday morning. She said she has seen many people who are seeking education on the touchy topic.
