BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) Centra's Bedford Memorial Hospital Emergency Room has reopened, this time with state of the art facilities.
The old ER shut its doors back in May and was temporarily moved to the second floor. Now it is has 14 rooms instead of 10 and a more open traffic flow for doctors and visitors. Today’s ribbon cutting was two years in the making.
According to a Centra spokesperson, BMH saw 17,000 emergency room visitors in 2017. They do expect to see an increase in volume with the renovation.
It’s a 4 million dollar project that Centra is hoping will send a message to the community.
“We want them to know that they matter. That this community is important that they don't have to drive 45 minutes out of the way to find excellent care,” said Stacey Hopkins, Director of Nursing for the Emergency Department. “We provide excellent care in their backyard. We will take care of you. Come here, see us and we will take care of your needs.”
The new ER will start treating patients Thursday morning at 5:00
