LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) A Lynchburg tradition will be kicking off Friday.
Cheers Lynchburg is getting started at 6 p.m. This will be the first year a private company, MG Productions, is taking over. This evening, they're expecting about 2,000 people to come out to Riverside Park.
MG Productions CEO Jack Edma says last year, they co-hosted the event with Lynch's Landing. This year, they're taking it up on their own to keep the tradition alive. He says Riverfront Park will be filled with people -- and this year they're putting a new emphasis on art and science installations, too.
Jack Edma, MG Productions CEO said, “Part of our mission with Cheers to the Weekend is to truly show the people who live here and the people who live outside of this region what we have to offer in Lynchburg and how cool our city is.”
Friday is the first of the eight Cheers concerts. It runs each Friday June 30 through August 18. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., the event runs from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults. Children 12 and under get in free.
