ALLISONIA, Va. (WDBJ7) It may be Summer, but sports teams are already getting started, and one town is changing up their routine this year.
Christiansburg High School and Middle School cross country runners are spending part of this week at Fariss Farms in Allisonia.
The large vineyard offers great terrain and access to the New River and Appalachian Trail to practice.
Runners say the new opportunity helps their team to grow together and grow as runners.
CHS Senior Landon Bell explained, "A majority of the year we're running on the streets or the Huckleberry [Trail], this just gives us a new scenery and new trails to run. It just gives us something new that keeps us fresh on our minds, somewhere else to run."
Fellow Senior Kacie McCumsey added, "We do other activities other than just run. We bike, we kayak, our team dinners are usually fun too, we really connect then, and just other activities that just bring us all together."
Teams and runners all hope this becomes a regular Summer trip for these teams.
