Christiansburg Police charge man with attempted armed robbery

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Christiansburg Police arrested a man in connection with an attempted armed robbery of a restaurant earlier today.

According to a release from the Christiansburg Police Department, officers responded to Long John Silvers on Roanoke Street at approximately 6:10 p.m. after a masked man entered the restaurant brandishing a handgun before demanding money from employees.

Police later arrested Gary Ray Bishop, 36, of Christiansburg. Bishop was charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.

No one was injured during the incident, and no money was taken from the restaurant, according to the release.
