CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) People who buy and sell items online may soon have a safe place to exchange those items in Christiansburg.

Town council is working with law enforcement to develop a Safe Zone - that's a place where people can meet that's safe ground.

The area would be monitored by video surveillance and heavily lit.

"It's like you've got a central spot. You don't have to go to somebody's house to get something when you don't know what you're going to run into, nor do you have to have somebody come to your house. to deliver an item and you don't know who exactly is knocking on the front door," said Mike Barber,

It could also be used for parents in custody battles to meet and exchange children.

Franklin and Bedford Counties and Danville already have safe zones.
