CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) Children celebrated Arbor Day one day early with a new tree in their backyard Thursday.
The Early Challenges Child Care Center in Christiansburg planted the sugar maple tree with all their children watching.
Each child also helped by throwing in dirt once the tree was in the ground.
The center said they're using Arbor Day and Earth Day to educate the kids about the environment and how to care for it.
Cathy Vanlear, the Director of the Early Challenges Child Care Center said, "We talked about recycling and helping our planet, helping out trees. We have a garden that we're not planting and it's good for them to learn why we have what we have in the world and how we can use it. We had a little boy just now found the first strawberry on the plant and his face was amazing."
Friday the kids will spend time under the tree celebrating Arbor Day.
