Christiansburg kid uses birthday to raise money for friend with cancer

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) One kid is proving you're never too young to make a difference in someone's life.

Nic Cope might seem like a familiar face because he's been a Kidcaster on WDBJ7 a couple of times.

Every year for his birthday Nic asks friends and family to donate to a different charity or cause.

This year Nic chose his friend Halle, who was diagnosed with a rare type of pancreatic cancer a few weeks ago.

He decided to have his party at Crimper's Climbing gym in Christiansburg for a "Climb to Conquer Cancer."

"When Halle got cancer I was hoping I could do something for her and this is what it is,” said Cope. "Hopefully to help pay out their medical bills that they they're paying right now, and also to help spread awareness of the cancer she has because it's really rare.”

All the proceeds raised today will go toward helping Halle beat cancer.
