RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) -- The City of Radford has cancelled its Parade of Lights due to inclement weather.

According to a spokesperson for the City of Radford, there is no makeup date scheduled.

A city spokesperson says the decision was based on safety concerns of everyone involved with the parade.

Here is a statement WDBJ7 received from the City of Radford:

Radford had an overwhelming response by registrants to participate in the parade and are thankful for all those who were willing to invest their time and resources into kicking off the holiday season in Radford.

Conversations were held early in the planning process as to whether an alternative date should be designated and considered, pending inclement weather. The steering committee did look at the calendar and considering all the other events taking place at this time of the year, as well as the impact on operations, it was decided to not seek an alternative date and hope the weather would cooperate.

Once again we appreciate your involvement in kicking off the holiday season in Radford and encourage all residents to attend the Tree Lighting taking place at 5:00 p.m. at the Radford Public Library.
