Clemson's Beer sweeps honors as ACC's top player, freshman

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Clemson outfielder Seth Beer is the first player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be named league player of the year and freshman of the year in the same season.

The league announced individual honors Monday after a vote by its head coaches.

Beer, a native of Suwanee, Georgia, is tied for the ACC lead with 15 home runs while ranking third with 60 RBI and sixth with a .378 batting average. He is the first freshman named as the ACC's top player since the award was established in 1969. The ACC honored a freshman of the year for the first time in 1991.

Louisville won two awards, with junior Drew Harrington named pitcher of the year and Dan McDonnell named coach of the year for the second straight season.
