Community reacts to crash that killed mother, toddler in Bedford County

BEDFORD CO., Va. (WDBJ7) The community is reacting to an accident that killed a mother and child in Bedford County early Tuesday morning.

21-year-old Shayna Darlene Alls and her two-year-old daughter died in the crash Tuesday morning on Route 24 near Stewartsville.

People who live in that area have seen many accidents there before. Tuesday afternoon, they say their prayers are with the family of Shayna Alls.

Alls was heading west on Route 24 around 6 a.m., when state police say she ran off the right side and overcorrected. She came back across the center line and hit another vehicle head on.

The other driver is OK, but Alls and her two year-old daughter were killed in the crash.

People who live nearby know this is a dangerous stretch of highway.

Bobby Bonds is recovering from injuries he received during an accident there in August.

Bonds says, "I've gotten hit on this road, turning into my mother's driveway here. I know a few people that's had accidents on this road, and unfortunately right many deaths on this road."

Alls had worked at Jersey Lily's restaurant in Roanoke, but left about a year ago.

WDBJ7 spoke with a former co-worker Tuesday morning who described her as soft-spoken and kind-hearted.

He told us, "She was all about her family, all about her daughter."
