Roanoke Co. house fire caused by unattended cooking

ROANOKE Co., Va. (WDBJ7) -- UPDATE:

The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department says the cause of the house fire at the 3500 block of Forester Road was from unattended cooking.

The fire caused about $5000 in damages.

The family and their pets have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting them.

No injuries were reported.

The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department says they responded to a house fire earlier today at around 6 p.m. at the 3500 block of Forester Road in Cave Spring.

Crews found smoke showing from the front of the home when they arrived on scene.

There were five adult occupants who lived in the home, but only three were at home at the time of the fire.

There were no reported injuries.

Officials say one cat was rescued from inside the house, and a dog was also found safe.

The fire was confined to the kitchen, but there is smoke damage throughout the home.

Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated at this time.
