Firefighters contain oil spill in Bedford

BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) UPDATE:

Firefighters say around 100 gallons of motor oil leaked into the parking lot of a Lowe's Home Improvement store in Bedford Friday afternoon.

Emergency workers tell WDBJ7 that a driver was travelling along Route 460 Friday afternoon, when he realized his truck was leaking oil. He pulled into the Lowe's parking lot, where oil continued to leak.

Firefighters spent part of the afternoon working to contain the oil and prevent the spill from reaching a nearby pond.

Emergency crews are responding to reports of a hazmat spill in Bedford.

Crews were dispatched to 1820 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike around 2:20 Friday afternoon, following reports that a tractor trailer leaked 300 gallons of oil into a storm drain.

1820 East Lynchburg Salem Turnpike is the address for a Lowe's Home Improvement store.

First responders have shut down the right westbound lane of Route 460 and entrances to Lowe's as they work to address the incident.
