ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Roanoke institution, Texas Tavern celebrated their 88th anniversary by selling die-hard fans willing to wait in the rain $0.88 hot dogs, hamburgers, and chili bowls Saturday.

They were busy all day with a line out the front door of their Church Avenue establishment. The counter was full of folks lining up along the back of the small restaurant.

"People are great," Matt Bullington said of the crowd. "They place a lot of big to-go orders. They're patient as can be, and my staff does a wonderful job trying to get the stuff out as quickly as we can."

Bullington said the anniversary special will be back next year.
