BEDFORD Co., Va. (WDBJ7) - The National D-Day Memorial is helping light up the holidays with 4,413 luminaries for the Flames of Memory event.
Each luminary reflects a life lost on D-Day.
This has become an annual event that's moved from the anniversary of D-Day to the holiday season.
These luminaries are available for people to purchase by donation year round.
Although the cut-off date to have a name included in this year's program has passed, they're already looking forward to next year.
Angela Lynch with the National D-Day Memorial Foundation stated, "Each luminary represents a service member, an allied service member who lost their life on D-Day. But what we do to kind of make it special for the community is not only make it honoring those allied service members, but people can make a donation and have one of these placed in honor or memory of a loved one. "
The event runs Friday to Sunday from 6p.m. to 9 p.m. each night.
On Saturday they're also having a Christmas and Wartime presentation.
