DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) People from all over the Dan River Region gathered for the Health Collaborative's third annual Health Summit.
Public health professionals, business owners, local organizations, and community members came together to exchange ideas and discuss new health strategies.
Organizers say it's vital that people not in the health field attend the summit because they are impacted by health as well.
"Educational attainment, to economic opportunity, to housing opportunities, they all play a part in how healthy we are as an individual and as a community," Health Collaborative Project Manager, Elyse Jardine.
The Dan River Region currently suffers from poverty, obesity and chronic disease at rates much higher than state and national averages.
