DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) If you have to go, you won't have to go far in downtown Danville.
A new public restroom will open in Danville's River District.
The building is between the fountain and the soon to be River District Tower.
Danville Police say they don't foresee any serious issues because the restroom is in a well lit area where they can easily keep an eye on it.
"But I don't think we have a specific protocol to deal with it yet. If we do start receiving some problems I'm sure we will devise a plan to deal with it," Danville Police Department Lt. Mike Wallace said.
City leaders say the facility was in the original plans for Main Street Plaza since 2012 but had to be pushed back for lack of funding.
"The purpose of it was to not look like a restroom building, it was suppose to kind of blend in with our architecture downtown and I think it's done that very well," Danville City Engineer Brian Dunevant said.
Danville Parks and Recreation will maintain this facility as it does the four other public bathrooms at parks throughout the city.
It will be open 24 hours a day starting in June.
Dunevant says the project cost around $200,000.
