DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Danville Veterinarian will soon be expanding and moving his practice into the city.

Danville City Council unanimously approved a special use permit for Dr. Jeff Smith of Mt. Herman Family Vet.

Smith will now be able to build on an empty lot along Old Piney Forest Road.

Smith says he has out grown his practice on Route 41 and needs room to expand.

Previously, Smith's proposal was approved by the planning commission despite backlash from neighbors.

Neighbors tell WDBJ7 say his clinic will not be a good fit for the Woodberry Hills neighborhood behind it.

Smith will now move forward with his plans.
