Danville taxi driver ambushed, shot while picking up fare

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) A Danville taxi driver is in the hospital after being attacked and shot Thursday evening.

It happened on the 2000 block of North Main Street around 8 p.m.

A 58-year-old taxi driver told police he was at the intersection of Dean Street and Myrtle Ave. to pick up a fare when three men came out from behind bushes. The taxi driver started to drive away when one of the men took out a gun, but the man still shot the driver.

The driver is in the Danville Regional Medical Center. He is expected to be OK.


Danville Police are investigating a shooting right now.

We're told it happened along North Main Street on Thursday night.

A police lieutenant tells us the victim is in serious condition.
