Danville Police raise more than $7K for Cops and Kids program by growing beards

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Many Danville Police officers will be spending a little extra time in front of the mirror Friday morning as they shave the beards they've been growing for the last month.

The officers were able to dismiss their usual grooming standards to raise money for the Cops and Kids program.

Each officer that wanted to grow out his facial hair donated at least ten dollars to the program.

As a department, and due in large part to community donations, they raised over seven thousand dollars.

"I'm not just growing the beard for the heck of it, but it's for a good cause, so it's been a boost in morale," says Lt. Michael Wallace.

The department will take more than 26 kids shopping for Christmas with the money raised on December 21.
