DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville Utilities is asking customers to conserve power the rest of the week.

A peak alert was issued by the wholesale power supplier for Wednesday through Friday of this week from 2:00-6:00 PM.

Danville Utilities says this does not mean there is a shortage, but an increased demand for electricity.

The director says the city usually peaks on the hottest or coldest days of the year.

"Conserve where they can. I understand that it's going to be extremely hot this week in the high 90's and that's usually when we peak is historically over the past 20 or 30 years has been in the summer," says Danville Utilities Director, Jason Grey.

Grey suggests customers set air conditioners at least 76 degrees and using household appliances outside of the peak time frame.
