DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) A peak power alert has been issued in Danville because of the cold weather.
Danville Utilities is urging electric customers to conserve energy the rest of the week.
The peak hours are 7:00 to 10:00 morning and night.
The Danville Utilities Director says customers should avoid running electric appliances, and keep their thermostats set to a reasonable temperature during these times.
"Cut off unused lights and TVs. All those things help with that lowering of our demand number,” says Danville Utilities Director, Jason Grey.
Grey says this does not mean there's a shortage of electricity.
Danville's transmission provider, American Electric Power, bases its transmission charges on the highest peak usage hour in a year.
