DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville leaders say two new businesses coming into the area is the beginning of many more to come.

Danville City Council has approved about $1.7 million for the two businesses.

Right now, they're only called Project Axis and Project Cardinal. They're estimated to bring 76 new jobs and provide above average salaries for the area.

Economic Development Director Telly Tucker says between these two companies and a $250 million land investment in Berry Hill Industrial Park, the city is preparing the area for a successful future.

"The progress we have been able to make with obtaining permits and those sorts of things are definitely helping draw some attention. And getting some looks that we had not previously been able to get," Tucker said.

Tucker says jobs with a higher living wage will collectively raise the economic landscape of the region.

He says both businesses will be announced by the end of the summer.
