Danville officer shot at during traffic stop

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Police in Danville are looking for whoever fired a gun at a Danville police officer during a traffic stop Thursday morning.

Authorities say it happened near Bradley Road and North Main street.

The officer was in a marked police vehicle with its emergency lights on.

Police say as the officer was stopping the driver, multiple gunshots were fired in the direction of the officer from less than 200 feet away.

The officer took cover and called for assistance and told the driver of the vehicle to take cover.

No rounds hit the officer, the driver of the stopped vehicle or the vehicle.
