DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ7) Danville has been awarded a big chunk of change to help with poverty.

The state grant is worth more than $339,000.

It's part of a program called "SCALE UP" and it's an extension of Danville Community College's TARE program.

It will boost community training and employment efforts to move low-income individuals out of poverty.

"This grant provides a really great opportunity for the community to build a new hope, to give people that may historically not have qualified for pell assistance an opportunity to come in for training," says Danville Community College's Director of Planning, George Still.

Danville's Division of Social Services and the Danville office of the Virginia Employement Commission are partners with DCC for the program.
